Care without the awkward silence
You brought her home. Now keep the chemistry alive with calm, practical frangipani care.
First things first
Check your plant or cutting on arrival, keep its cultivar label safe and follow any item-specific advice supplied with it. General guidance is useful; the exact plant, season and local conditions still matter.
Fresh cuttings
A fresh wound must be dry and properly callused before planting. Use a very free-draining mix, keep the cutting upright and supported, and resist frequent watering while roots are forming. If your cutting arrives ready to plant, follow the instructions supplied with that exact cutting.
Rooted plants
Acclimatise a newly moved plant gradually to stronger sun. Water thoroughly, then let the mix dry rather than keeping it constantly damp. Good drainage is non-negotiable.
Grafted plants
Keep the graft union above the potting mix, avoid knocks while it establishes and remove shoots that appear below the graft. Support the plant if wind places strain on the join.
Cooler months
Leaf drop and slower growth can be normal as temperatures fall. Reduce watering sharply during dormancy and protect tender plants from cold, frost and prolonged winter rain.
When something feels wrong
Pause watering, isolate the plant if disease or pests are suspected, photograph the affected area in good light and send a Whisper. Early, honest detail is more useful than guesswork.
