Queen of Penang has the dangerous confidence of a cultivar that has already been told she is the favourite.

Her blooms carry golden-yellow warmth with a seductive kiss of pink around the edges, opening like tropical decadence with excellent manners and poor restraint.

Steve's collection note described her as a current favourite, with huge blooms and a beautiful fragrance.

The colour is generous without being loud, soft enough to feel elegant and warm enough to make the garden look slightly complicit.

Queen of Penang is the sort of girl who does not need to ask for attention. She simply opens.

She deserves better than a fading marker.

I label every plant in my collection with tags made by my son Brock at BrockMark. He permanently laser-engraves them into weatherproof anodised aluminium, finishes each one with a stainless-steel wire loop and checks the spelling before the plants are left to defend their own identities.
